September 6-September 9
We are excited to usher n the month of September and to
begin the fall season and all that it brings! The first graders are working
hard to become great scholars.
Spalding: Scholars will learn 5 new words each day and will
have a 10 word spelling test on Friday. The phonogram focus this week is: oo,
ee, ch, r, c, k, sh, ou, g, b
Grammar: We will continue to distinguish the difference between common nouns
and proper nouns. Students will also learn more about commas and their
appropriate usage. Commas, this week, will be used in between cities and
states.
Math:
This week the scholars will be focusing on addition within 10. We will spend a
lot of time learning about how to tell and solve addition problems, using
number bonds to solve problems, and identifying if an addition equation is true
or false. Our key vocabulary this week will be addition, plus, and part- part-
whole. Please use this vocabulary at home to help support your scholar’s
understanding of the concept.
This
week in Literature we will be focusing on identifying sequence of events.
We will be reading A.A. Milne's "In Which Tigger Comes to the Forest"
and focusing on identifying the events that happened at the beginning, middle,
and end of the story. For poetry, we will be reciting out poem "I'm
Glad" on Tuesday, September 6th and beginning a new poem
called "The Caterpillar" on Wednesday.
History: We will be taking our first unit 1 test on
Tuesday, 9/6. We will be moving on to Unit 2, Mesopotamia.
Science: We will be reviewing for our first unit 1 test all
week. ,
