January 9th-13th

 First grade families,

We hope you have a restful break! Below you will find a snapshot at what your scholar will be learning after break!

Math: The students will begin a new unit in measurement. This is a fairly short unit. We will focus on using the term "unit" as a form of measurement, properly measuring objects, and estimating measurements of objects.

Literature:This week in Literature we will be learning about Aesop's Fables.  We will learn what a moral is and discuss the morals for our first two fables: The Fox and the Grapes and The Goose and the Golden Egg.  In poetry we will be starting to learn the poem, "The Little Turtle" by Vachel Lindsay.

History: This week in History we will be starting our Early Civilizations of the Americas Unit. We will start out by taking a look at the first people in North America, how the got here using the Bering Strait Land Bridge,  how they lived first by hunting and gathering and then settling down into civilizations using agriculture as a means of food.

Science: The students will be beginning a new unit on simple machines. We will spend the week learning about what machines are useful and focusing on ramps and wheels/axles.
