October 3-7, 2022
October has arrived
and the cool mornings have put a freshness of energy in first grade as we grow
together this fall.
Spalding:
This week we will be learning 9-10 new words each day. Please study these words
with your scholar every night. Phonogram focus: ir, ea, ee, th, er, ay, ai, i,
s, d
Grammar: Scholars will continue to review common nouns and proper nouns using
family names. Scholars will also learn about abbreviations—what “abbreviation”
means and how to properly shorten words.
Math: In math we will be wrapping up our time in subtraction
within 10. We will spend the first half of the week reviewing the concepts
learned such as strategies to subtract, fact families, number bonds, and how
addition and subtraction are related. We will take our unit 3 test on Wednesday,
October 5th. We will review our tests on Thursday to address any
misconceptions. We will wrap up our week taking a cumulative test on everything
learned in units 1-3.
In
literature we will be reading another Trickster tale and continuing with our
study of Frog and Toad All Year. We will continue using evidence from the
text to cite our thoughts and answers. Our poetry recitation of “Bird Talk” by
Aileen Fisher will be Tuesday, October 4th.
We will be beginning a new unit called 3 World Religions.
The chapters we will be discussing are the following:
What Is Religion?
The History of Judaism
Moses and the Jewish People in Egypt
The Flight from Egypt
The History of Christianity
The History of Islam
