Spalding: Scholars will learn ten new words each day this week. There will be a 30 word test on Friday, so be sure you are reviewing these words with your scholar each night. Math: The name of the game this week is review! Last week we focused on number patterns, place value, and greater than/less than/ equal to. We will be having a test on this material on Friday, October 28th. We will spend the whole week reviewing all of these concepts with ample opportunities to practice. As your scholar completes their homework this week, we highly encourage having them draw "sticks and dots" to represent tens and ones on all problems related to place value. This will help solidify the concept. We also encourage having them verbally going through each problem to help address any misconceptions they may have.
Literature: This week in Literature we will be starting our Fairy Tale unit! We will be reading Sleeping Beauty and Rumpelstiltskin. We will discuss the elements of a Fairy Tale including magic, fantasy, royalty, and happy endings. We will also be continuing our work of retelling stories, making sure to include key details and plot points. Our poetry recitation of "Hearts Are Like Doors" will be Thursday, Oct. 27th.
Grammar: Students will be introduced to pronouns this week. Our pronoun focus are words I, me, my, and mine.
History: We will be discussing Judaism holidays all week. On Monday, we will discuss Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur. On Wednesday, we will be discussing important facts such as the Star of David. On Friday, we will be reviewing and making a fun craft.
Science: On Tuesday, we will be talking about how adult animals care for their young. On Wednesday, we will be talking about how do young animals survive.
